Hey beautiful soul! Today, I want to talk about something close to my heart: healing enough to learn a new skill, especially after experiencing verbal abuse. It’s not an easy journey, but with God’s grace and a strong desire to rise above, it’s possible. Let’s dive into how we can embrace productivity, creativity, and faith as we work toward healing.
Get Out of a State of Freeze by having a deep desire to get better
In moments of trauma, it’s natural to feel stuck or frozen, unable to move beyond survival mode. I know this feeling all too well. For a long time, the verbal abuse I endured left me in a state where doing anything more than merely existing seemed impossible. However, I discovered that the first step towards healing is developing a deep desire to get better.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future
Jeremiah 29:11, NIV
learning a new skill could help you leave a toxic environnement
Burnout can be a significant barrier when trying to pursue your dreams, especially if you’re recovering from trauma. There were times when I was so exhausted that the thought of working on my projects felt overwhelming. But, through prayer and reflection, I realized that I had to believe I had enough energy to move forward. Philippians 4:13 became a mantra for me. This belief was the catalyst that helped me transition from merely surviving to truly living.
I can do all this through him who gives me strength
Philippians 4:13, NIV
only invest time into activities you're passionate about
One of the most crucial steps in this journey is finding a creative expression that resonates with you. It should be something that not only makes your heart sing but also feels sustainable. For me, blogging became that outlet. I knew I could be consistent with it, unlike other forms of content creation like YouTube videos. Finding your creative expression is about aligning your passions with your capabilities, even if it goes against societal expectations. You have to believe that success is possible in something you genuinely enjoy. Remember, being productive isn’t just a secular goal—it’s a holy pursuit. When we work towards our dreams, we honor the gifts God has given us.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters
Colossians 3:23, NIV
our calling comes from god
The lies of inadequacy can be crippling, but we must reject them. Believe that you are capable of learning new skills and solving problems. With a strong identity in Christ and a sense of dignity, you can overcome any obstacle. Remember, honoring your parents and seeking independence isn’t mutually exclusive. You can respect them while pursuing a path that brings you fulfillment and joy.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do
Ephesians 2:10, NIV
jesus guides the healing process
Healing is a journey, not a destination. As you continue to heal, know that you are not alone. God is with you every step of the way, guiding you toward a future filled with hope and possibility. Let’s embrace the journey with courage and faith, believing in the power of Christ-centered personal empowerment.
